Early Life and Graffiti Roots 

Choci’s artistic journey began in the punk and graffiti scenes of London. In the early 1980s, he immersed himself in the burgeoning graffiti movement, even traveling to New York City to connect with pioneers like MARE 139 and KEL. His experiences painting subway trains in NYC made him one of the first British artists to do so, leaving a lasting impact on his creative outlook. 

Transition to DJing and the Tonka Sound System

Inspired by the raw energy of acid house and the DIY ethos of punk, Choci transitioned into DJing. He became a central figure in the Tonka Sound System, a collective known for its legendary free parties in the UK. These events were characterized by their inclusive atmosphere and eclectic music, blending disco, garage, rock, and acid house.

Choci’s Chewns and Musical Contributions 

In 1992, Choci founded Choci’s Chewns, a record label and shop based in London. The label became a cornerstone of the UK acid trance and techno scenes, releasing tracks that were both innovative and dancefloor-ready. Artists associated with Choci’s Chewns include Solar Quest, DJ Geezer, RMS, DJ Paola, and Heuristix.

Choci’s own productions, such as “Avin’ It (Tonka Style)” and “Can You Feel The Force,” exemplify his high-energy, acid-infused sound. His compilations, like “Modernistic Acid Trance (Part One),” showcase his ability to curate and mix tracks that capture the essence of the underground rave scene.

Legacy and Ongoing Influence

Beyond his musical endeavors, Choci remains active in the creative arts, returning to graffiti and collaborating with artists like Stay Up Forever to support social causes. His commitment to vinyl and electrifying performances continues to inspire new generations of DJs and producers.
