Jay Murray

Jay Murray

Jay is no stranger behind the decks with a career spanning 36 years and has played a large plethora of genres including house, techno, breakbeat, hardcore, and trance.Starting off with buying house music way back in 1985 where i would listen to Dave Pearce and Jazzy M on london pirate station LWR and then pester the record shops in Cambridge to order me what I'd been hearing over the airwaves. The first house music record I ever bought was Nitro Delux - This Brutal House.....and it still sits proudly in my record collection.

When the acid house explosion began to take place in 1988 i started to visit clubs such as the electric ballroom in Camden and would hear this music I'd bought over the last few years fused together alongside hip hop and soul.

1989 i got my first taste of dj'ing.A large group of us used to go to all the illegal warehouse party's around Cambridge and we'd attend the big one's in and around London as well. One of our group had bought some technics decks so we'd set them up down our local youth club (one of us had nicked the key) and throw an after party on Sunday afternoon.By the end of 89 I bought my own decks and started throwing my own all night party once a month in a dodgy pub in one of the villages in Cambridgeshire - The King William in Heydon was a true den of iniquity lol.The party was simply called Jays disco and was all word of mouth.People would be breaking the windows to get in once we was full up inside and locked the doors.I ran that night on and off until 1994 and i was dj'ing all around the local area at other events too.

1990 a couple of us started up a pirate radio station called fusion 101.5 FM.We used to break into a farmer's barn and set the rig up and party on the radio for the weekend..... They was good times.I left the radio in 1994 when it started going all dark side and jungle and the statio had changed from fusion FM to Shocking FM.

1994 I started playing for Stomp at Pages wine bar in Finchley on Friday's and at the Stomp boat party's that were held at the Yacht Club on the Thames.1995 i started playing for Funderground down in Rochester at the vaults. And i played at heights 2000 in Harlow on the ministry of sound tour.I was also playing at loads of local one off events such as promised land in Hitchin.

1996 a group of us started doing regular parties in woods around the Hertfordshire countryside I was also co running a night in a local wine bar - Thank Funk It's Friday..... I carried on playing at local clubs and events and illegal raves for many years with the odd gig in London as well.

Fast forward to the last 12 years and I've played for most of the large old school promotions including Epidemic, Raindance,Labrynth and travelled up and down the country playing at numerous old school events.I've also promoted my own old school night called legacy of house and had a show (The old school Sunday service) on London pirate station Playback FM for 3 years and also had a show on Origin FM.Also played on club labrynth radio internet station for a couple of years and a few others.

My love of trance has always bubbled away in the background whilst I've been involved in different scenes, but the last couple of years has seen me play for Wax Format,Vinyl Warriors,Therapy and also Frantic plus loads more.

I've also started my own successful trance on vinyl promotion - Vinyl Euphoria which is 7 years old this August

Can't wait to get behind those Technics at Logics Summer Gathering 🙏❤️
